Fitting Instructions for the PetsGuard foam collar: 1) DO NOT remove any of the sizing slices. First, try to put the collar over your cat's head with a twisting push. As the collar goes over the head toward the neck, it should pull the cat's skin and ears back. This is normal and will ensure a better fit around the neck. When fit correctly, the collar will spin freely around the neck, but cannot be removed over the head too easily. 2) We've made the center hole in the PetsGuard foam collar smaller to accomodate smaller cats. If it's too small for your cat's head, remove just ONE of the sizing slices (one quarter section of inner ring). Try the collar again, placing the opened area under cat's chin when attempting to slide the collar on. If the center hole is still too small, remove ONE additional sizing slit (either next to or underneith the first slit removed). Try the collar again. Continue in this manner until you can just get the foam collar over your cat's head with a bit of pushing and twisting. When putting this collar on, the skin on your cat's face should be pulled back. The more difficult it is to get the collar on - the more difficult it will be for your cat to remove it! If your cat pulls the PetsGuard collar off at any time, put it back on and distract him with some food or a toy. When testing this product on our cats, we found that they did not pull it off more than once as long as they had other activities to occupy their attention. *** If your cat continues to pull the collar off, try putting his regular collar on above the foam collar (closer to cat's head) to block the foam from being pulled off too easily. *** You can always switch between using the foam collar and a plastic cone collar on your cat. If he/she tends to get the foam collar off (under a bed, between dining room chairs, etc.), we recommend using a plastic collar when you are not home to supervise your cat and then putting the foam collar back on when you are at home. CAUTIONS: * The PetsGuard collar is intended for indoor use only. If your cat needs to go outside, we recommend you take the collar off as it can get caught on fences, bushes or branches. Another alternative is to supervise your cat while he's outdoors with the collar on. *This collar works best in a home environment, not a vet's kennel or other confined situation. Cats will forget they are wearing the collar when in familiar surroundings with ample distractions (food, toys, other pets, etc.). * This collar is intended to use on adult cats. It may work on small dogs or older kittens (especially with new smaller center hole), but we cannot guarantee it. * The PetsGuard collar may allow your cat to lick his paws or tip of the tail. If your cat's problem is on his foot or end of his tail, this product may not provide the protection needed. Care Instructions for the PetsGuard foam collar: If your cat has worn the PetsGuard collar for awhile, you may want to wash it to keep it fresh & clean. Most fur on the collar can be removed with a wire pet brush and/or one of those sticky roller lint removers. Next, we recommend hand-washing the collar in warm water with a mild detergent (like liquid dish soap), wring the water out of it and let the collar drip dry. Do NOT put it in a clothes dryer or use a hand-held hair dryer in close proximity to the collar's foam, which could melt. To disinfect the collar, spray a 10 to 1 mixture of bleach and water on all surfaces of the collar, rinse in warm water and drip dry. You could also dip the entire collar in a 10 to 1 bleach mixture.
